The Goulburn Valley Hockey Association
In 1992 the Shepparton Women's Hockey Association and the Goulburn Valley Men's Hockey Association amalgamated to form the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association. At that time hockey was played on grass fields at McEwen Reserve in Braumann Street Shepparton on Saturday afternoons.
In 1993 with the assistance of Commonwealth funding, the synthetic turf field was laid and officially opened ready for the 1994 season. The field is fully utilised during the busy hockey season from Friday to Sunday night.
The GVHA currently has 23 senior teams and 15 junior teams in its competition and also a representative team that plays in the Melbourne Junior Competition. A Minkey program is also run for 6 to 9 year olds to assist with skills building.
Over the years, GV Hockey players have had a strong representation in all levels of hockey, from local representative sides to regional, state and national competitions including the Hockey Roos.
The Association includes clubs from Benalla, Euroa, Echuca, Kyabram, Mooroopna, Shepparton and continues to grow.
A dedicated committee with representatives from all clubs, work tirelessly to keep the Association progressive, and are continually improving facilities, with plans for a second field, new clubhouse and better spectator amenities.
